Home to Hönö

On the way to Hönö, the island

Photo taken in Sweden, not where my home is, but where it smells familiar from salt and where the seagulls sound like seagulls should, where you have to watch your food or it will get stolen from the plate by one of the hungry ones...

This photo is for sale on EyeEm, follow the link (click on the photo) if you want to use it and you will get to the marketplace.

Resting in the sun

Cats resting in the sun. If you look carefully you'll see that there is a buoy under the bench, and sure enough, this is taken by the sea. It's no wonder the cats picked the spot they did - it is nice and warm in the sun, it is peaceful, and there is, potentially, a chance of getting some fish.

Clever thinking...
There is something about not just the sea but everything that happens around, and fact is, when I see this photo with the cats, I can smell the fish, the salt in the air, the sunshine, there is something so incredibly real about it, as if I was just there and the smell still lingers in my nose.

Imagination is a wonderful thing.

Nature awakening

Springtime Parklife

Spring is here and quickly moving in to summer, it is amazing to see how nature comes back to life after hibernating, I love it when the crocuses are starting to show their heads and the first leaves are starting to show on the branches.

There is something absolutely magical about it and yet it happens every year, again and again - it is wonderful to see. I just wish I'd do what I say every year and actually go out and enjoy - however every year when spring comes there is just too much to do, somehow and I seem to forget. Now I have started to leave the camera out because when I do I seem to remember that on a sunny day it is a good thing to go out into nature and photograph.

This photo and more are for sale on EyeEm, if you click on the picture you will get to the market place

And so another day dawns

And orange sun rising over the rooftops

Another day dawns and the sun, yet again, comes up and we start yet again, a new day. The same as every day - and yet, every day is different...

They say that lighter photos attract the eye more but there is something about this one,  the colour of the sun, and the sharp edges, and the black silhouettes from the roof tops, together with, if you look carefully, the bird sitting on the antenna that makes me like it Originally a "fail", I meant to take the photo but had my settings a little bit TOO extreme, I am quite pleased with it. There is no photoshop, there is no other editing, it is just completely like it was. Maybe later I will do an edited version of the photo, but that's for then...

This photo is available in various formats on EyeEm, click on the photo to get to the market place and check out the alternatives if you are interested.

Preparing for a new season

I was out for a walk with my camera when I snapped this. I have always been fascinated with everything that grows - nature is so amazing and the patterns in nature are gorgeous. I especially like this photo which is old flowers looking almost like clouds, I love how they almost look like a painting - nature is fantastic!

December Fishing tour

Turkish fishermen

There isn't just fishing going on in in US and France. It happens everywhere - also in Turkey - and as always I end up down by the water...
A chilly day in December I snapped this...
I am especially happy with the fishing rod following the line of the bridge , as if that was an extra bridge, an extra line.  There was something with the light this day, and I very much enjoy the shadows.

This photo and other are for sale, if you click on the photo you will get to the EyeEm market space where the photos can be bought - for various use, and in various sizes - for different price.

Catching anything?

Any sharks out there?

Every time I get to California I try and get to the beach, to smell the ocean and soak in the atmosphere, get new energy. I don't sunbathe and I don't really go into the water either - but I come for the sea, the ocean.

Somehow I often end up in Santa Cruz - a city I at first glance thought was a bit tacky but then fell in love with.

I also have a secret dream that one day this is where I will see my first real big shark, preferably a Great White - not close to the beach, of course, but a bit further out. I realise chances are very slim, it is not their hunting grounds and even though they exist in the Pacific and are spotted they are normally much further out and in areas where there isn't that much disturbance - and I wouldn't see them.

Last time I was in Santa Cruz I did however joke about it - and learnt from one of the locals that at times you CAN actually see them, much further out, breaching the surface, catching a seal.

Needless to say I spent a lot of my time last time staring out into the water. Because who knows, maybe if I looked long enough.

The fishermen were completely unmoved by my excitement.

This and the majority of the photos on this blog are for sale, click on the photo to get to EyeEm market place.

The rolling hills of San Jose

Hills in San Jose

Very  soon I will be back in San Jose again, if all goes as planned - and I am really looking forward. There is something with the rolling hills nearby... I first came to California some 15+ years ago, and since then I am in love, the landscape is so incredibly dramatic and there is something with the smell that is mesmerizing.

And you don't have to go far to get to wine country, while Napa and Sonoma are the most famous areas in Northern California, friends of mine took me to a fantastic little winery in the San Jose mountains, where I took this photo.

This photo and others are for sale on EyeEm and with their partners, you can click on the photo to get to their market space, if interetsed.

Spring is here

Yellow Flowers

Spring is here or - at least on the way...
There is something absolutely fascinating with the first leaves, the first flowers - the first LIFE, the first signs that winter is actually over.

Seeing nature coming back to life, it really amazes me, and yet, nature has done this year after year after year, always the same - and a good reason to why we have to take care of our nature, if we mess with the ecosystems, what else do we mess with?

Se(a) you in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, California

Every time I am here I find myself staring into the sea and out over the ocean, hoping that one day, one day I will see it, one day I will get a look at a Great White.

Not on the beach, nowhere close to the pier, but somewhere, far out there, where they sometimes break the surface chasing for fish, a seal or a sea lion. At least I am told that some days you can spot them.

This photos is for sale on EyeEm and their partner platforms, also for commercial use - click on the photo to get to the market place.

A Wall of Flowers

Along the way

A wall of flowers, one of those old walls completely covered with flowers. This is taken in France, in Bretagne / Brittany in May. Such a wonderful time to be there, when everything is new and fresh, the landscape is absolutely covered in flowers. Brittany has always, ever since I first came here, to Benodet, for windsurfing and SUP (Stand-up paddle) years ago now, had a magical pull on me, I think it is  the old stone houses, the wind in the trees and the overall feeling of being in the middle of a fairytale that does it...

Brittany is a part of the world one should see - but without stress, the distances are great, the roads and narrow and the food is fantastic - so take your time. Stop and smell  the flowers!

Building something?

Construction work or loading?

A building crane, or a loading crane no longer in use. I have always been fascinated with machinery and logistics, as well as angles and lines.

Wheat - patterns in nature

Patterns in Nature

There is something about patterns and shapes in nature that never stops fascinating, I love close-ups of nature - it's perfect even when there are imperfections, and it amazes me how, unless we humans destroy the dna of the plants, the same patterns come back again  and again and again and again.

I love the green colour of the fields

This photo, together with most of the photos here are available for sale, in most cases also for commercial use. Please click on the photo to get to the EyeEm market. Photo available in different sizes.

A bit of pink - tulips

Closeup of a tulip

The close-up of the inside of a tulip, with the fine details, I especially love how the yellow moves over into pink. This photo I had enlarged and framed myself, there is something about the shadows, the way the leaves lean in together, and how the colours shift.

This photo is on sale on EyeEm, just click on the photo go get to the market site. Available for commercial use, in various formats.

I'll leave the lights on for you

Welcome home

I'll leave the lights on for you...

Photo taken a summer night, up in Scandinavia, which you might have guessed from the yellow façade of the house, wooden facades are not very common in Europe outside Scandinavia - more people, fewer trees...

What drew me to this photo was the warm light from the lamp, a lamp that looks antique but has been fitted with electrical power.

There is something so welcoming with the yellow light that is left on when the night falls.

The old carousel

Abandoned park

The old carousel, abandoned or waiting for new adventures, more children joining, more happy moments?

I am always attracted to what looks a little bit out of place, or not quite right, and there is something special with carousel horses that were made to carry happy children around, for the moment standing empty. I can imagine the sound of laughter and I imagine the horses missing, longing for that sound.

Let's have a chat

The discussion

I try and keep my eyes open for colours, for situations, for angles that triggers something else.

I love the intimacy in this photo, two people engaged in a discussion - this is what I, too, enjoy about city life - the random conversations that happen across town.

What makes this photo interesting to me is not just that it's colourful, and the position of the people, I also like the rust and the old paint on the surroundings elements in the foreground. This may just be one of my favourite photos.

This photo is available on EyeEm, click on the photo to get to the EyeEm Marketspace, the photos can be purchased through EyeEm as well as partner networks and are available in different sizes and for different purposes.
